At CAS, we believe that community is built in the moments we share , and sometimes, those moments start in the kitchen.
Our recent community cooking show, delivered in collaboration with LiveWell’s Spring Pop-Up Festival, brought people together in a vibrant celebration of global flavours, culture, and connection. It was more than just food; it was an opportunity for people from different backgrounds to meet, learn, and experience something meaningful together.
A Celebration of Global Flavours
From West Africa to Latin America, East Asia, the United Kingdom, and Iran, the cooking show reflected the rich cultural diversity within our community.

A wide range of dishes were prepared and shared, including Pastelitos, Havij Polo, Jollof Rice, Fried Rice, Leek and Potato Soup, Puff Puff, Yam and Egg Sauce, Fried Plantains, Pepper Soup, and Pistachio Pastry. Guests also enjoyed refreshing drinks such as apple juice, orange juice, and a mango & blueberry smoothie.
Each dish told a story, offering a glimpse into traditions, heritage, and the everyday experiences that shape different cultures.
How Our Community Cooking Show Brought People Together
What made this community cooking show truly special was the level of engagement it inspired.
Attendees didn’t just observe, they participated. Conversations flowed naturally as people asked questions, shared their own experiences, and showed genuine curiosity about the ingredients, techniques, and cultural significance behind each meal.

We were also delighted to welcome special guests, including Davina Unsworth from Rochdale Borough Housing, who supported the preparation of the Leek and Potato Soup, and Catherine Lee, Fundraising Officer at the National Lottery Community Fund, who joined us in connecting with attendees and supporting the initiative.
Creating Meaningful Community Impact
Beyond the activity itself, the event highlighted what is possible when spaces are intentionally inclusive.
People felt comfortable, seen, and open to sharing parts of their culture. The atmosphere was warm, curious, and collaborative; a reminder that community isn’t just about proximity, but about connection.

Moments like these reinforce the value of creating opportunities where people can come together in ways that feel natural, engaging, and meaningful.
Overall, the community cooking show was a success: strengthening community bonds, celebrating cultural diversity, and creating shared experiences that will be remembered long after the event.

At CAS, we remain committed to creating inclusive, community-led initiatives that bring people together and amplify diverse voices.
