Community engagement in Rochdale remained at the heart of Caring and Sharing (CAS)’s work this week as we strengthened partnerships, promoted health equity, inspired young people through STEM education, and advocated for migrant care workers across Greater Manchester. Through collaboration and inclusive community programmes, we continue to create opportunities that empower diverse communities and improve lives.
Breaking Barriers to Cancer Care
This week, CAS held the inception meeting for the “Bridging Barriers: Empowering Diverse Communities in Cancer Care” project, funded by Macmillan Cancer Support.

The meeting brought together CAS and Jodie Taylor, Communities Manager; North of England, Communities and Systems Partnerships, for an insightful discussion on the project’s vision, priorities, and strategic direction. With a strong focus on improving cancer care access and outcomes for BAME and migrant communities across Rochdale and surrounding areas, the initiative aims to reduce health inequalities through trusted partnerships, community engagement, and culturally inclusive support.
Through this collaboration, CAS is taking another important step towards ensuring more people can access the information, services, and support they need throughout their cancer journey.
Inspiring the Next Generation Through STEM
Meanwhile, CAS was delighted to attend the Rochdale Science Extravaganza 2026, hosted by Rochdale Science Initiative in partnership with Falinge Park High School.
The event brought together families, educators, young people, and community organisations for an exciting day of interactive STEM activities. Through hands-on learning and discovery, participants explored science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in a fun and engaging environment.
Events like these encourage curiosity, inspire future innovators, and strengthen community engagement by making learning accessible to everyone.
Supporting Migrant Care Workers
In addition, CAS attended the Conference on Tackling the Exploitation of COS Visa Care Workers in Greater Manchester, a collaborative initiative involving BASNET UK, AFRUCA, Caring and Sharing, and other consortium partners.

During the conference, our CEO, Nicky Iginla, joined a panel discussion to share CAS’s work, project impact, and recommendations for supporting migrant care workers. She highlighted how our programmes have helped individuals access trusted advice, understand their rights, navigate the visa sponsorship process, and build confidence as they settle into their communities.
The conference reinforced the importance of partnership working to tackle exploitation, protect vulnerable workers, and promote fair employment practices across Greater Manchester.
Looking Ahead
From improving access to cancer care and encouraging STEM learning to supporting migrant communities, CAS remains committed to creating stronger, healthier, and more inclusive communities through meaningful partnerships.
We thank our partners, volunteers, supporters, and community members for being part of this journey. Follow Caring and Sharing (CAS) for more updates as we continue making a lasting impact through community engagement across Rochdale and Greater Manchester.
