At Caring and Sharing Rochdale (CAS), we believe that community voices are essential in creating services that truly reflect people’s experiences and needs.
Recently, our VIP Over 50s Group collaborated with the Geller Institute of Ageing and Memory, and the University of West London on a research project exploring the experiences of African and African Caribbean people living with memory problems.

Through creative activities, conversations, and shared stories, participants shared their experiences and perspectives on the challenges they face when accessing social care support.
The session provided an opportunity for community members to contribute valuable insights that can help researchers understand how services can become more inclusive, accessible, and culturally responsive.
Empowering Community Voices Through Research
The collaboration created a safe and welcoming space where members of our VIP Over 50s Group could share their lived experiences. Their contributions will support research into improving care and support for individuals, families, and care partners.

At CAS, we recognise the importance of listening to the communities we serve. By working together with research partners, we can help ensure that older people’s voices are included in conversations about health, wellbeing, and social care.
Building More Inclusive Care Through Partnership
This collaboration with the Geller Institute of Ageing and Memory, and the University of West London highlights the positive impact of partnerships between community organisations and research institutions.

By bringing together research expertise and lived experiences, we can better understand the needs of African and African Caribbean communities in Rochdale and support the development of more inclusive care services.

We would like to thank everyone from our VIP Over 50s Group who took part and generously shared their stories. We also appreciate the Geller Institute of Ageing and Memory at the University of West London for partnering with us on this meaningful project.
Together, we continue to amplify community voices and work towards a future where everyone feels heard, valued, and supported.
