Understanding Housing Insecurity in Rochdale
This week, in collaboration with Humanity Project UK, CAS Rochdale successfully held the first series of its community assembly focused on “Understanding the Housing & Homelessness Crisis Amongst New Immigrants in Rochdale.”
The assembly brought together community members, participants, and facilitators to engage in open and meaningful conversations around housing insecurity in Rochdale Borough, homelessness awareness, and the challenges many new immigrants and vulnerable individuals continue to face within the community.
Facilitated by Olajesu Cole and Blessing Wheto, the session created a welcoming and supportive environment where participants felt comfortable sharing experiences, reflections, and concerns.
Encouraging Community Conversations and Shared Learning
Through interactive discussions and reflection activities, participants explored several important issues affecting vulnerable communities in Rochdale, including:
- Access to affordable housing
- Housing insecurity and temporary accommodation
- Financial and language barriers
- Awareness of support services
- The importance of community support and inclusion
The assembly encouraged honest conversations and community engagement, allowing participants to listen, learn, and reflect together.
One of the most impactful aspects of the session was hearing directly from participants about how the conversation helped them better understand the realities surrounding homelessness and housing challenges within Rochdale Borough.
Strengthening Community Support and Inclusion
Key themes highlighted during the assembly included the need for increased awareness, stronger support systems, improved access to information, and more community-led responses to housing challenges.
The insights gathered during this first session will also help shape the second assembly, which will focus on developing practical and actionable community solutions.

Looking Ahead
The first Humanity Project Assembly highlighted the importance of creating safe spaces where community voices can be heard and supported. Conversations like these continue to play an important role in building stronger, more informed, and more connected communities in Rochdale.
