At CAS, our dedication to inclusion, cultural awareness, and community cohesion continues to shape everything we do. This year’s Black History Month celebration at CAS brought together service users, families, volunteers, and partners for a vibrant, reflective, and deeply meaningful event that honoured Black heritage while fostering unity across our diverse community.
From shared stories to expressive showcases, the day created a warm space where individuals could connect, learn, and celebrate identity with pride and confidence.
Key Highlights from Our Black History Month Celebration
Cultural Showcase

A standout moment of the day was our colourful cultural showcase. Participants proudly presented traditional clothing, music, food, and performances that highlighted the richness and diversity within the Black community. It was a joyful reminder of how culture strengthens belonging and creates shared understanding.
Youth-Focused Creative Activities
Children engaged in creative activities celebrating Black excellence, historical icons, and cultural pride. This intentional engagement supports the next generation with representation, confidence, and positive imagery.

Community Conversations
Facilitated discussions explored themes such as belonging, equity, and community safety — topics that sit at the heart of CAS’ mission to support marginalized voices and strengthen community cohesion.

A Special Moment: Celebrating Our CEO
In the spirit of unity, we also celebrated our CEO’s birthday during the event. This added an extra layer of joy and appreciation, acknowledging her leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to uplifting vulnerable and marginalized groups.

Why Black History Month Matters at CAS
For us, Black History Month is not just a celebration — it is a strategic extension of our mission. Our work with asylum seekers, refugees, and individuals from the BAME community centres on dignity, visibility, and empowerment.
To see how these values shape our work year-round, you can read more about our Asylum and Refugee Empowerment Programme.
By uplifting Black stories, strengthening cultural understanding, and creating safe spaces for connection, we reinforce our commitment to a community where everyone feels represented and supported.
Looking Ahead
As we continue building inclusive programmes and championing cultural diversity, we remain dedicated to creating spaces where every voice is valued and every story has room to thrive. Black History Month may be marked once a year, but its principles guide our daily work and long-term vision for community empowerment.
